Roller Shutters FAQ

Roller Shutters questions

Q: What does a security shutter cost?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                A: This question is difficult to answer without more information. It depends on various things like the size of the opening, the product, and any accessories you require. What we can say is that our prices are competitive. If you have a specific project in mind it’s best to contact us for a quote.

Q: Can you paint my shutter in a specific colour?A: Usually we can. Each security shutter comes with a standard factory finish. For example, steel roller shutters are galvanised as standard. Aluminium continental roller shutters usually come in a white or brown finish; other aluminium shutters come mill finish. Most (but not all) types can be powder coated or painted to a standard RAL or BS colour.

Q: Are they installed on the inside or the outside of the building?
A: Shutters are installed on the outside but are controlled from inside. Occasionally perhaps due to body corporate or council restrictions they can be installed on the inside. Outside is preferable and usual.

Q: What are the most likely problems that could arise with the Shutter?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                              A. There are not many, providing you take care in operation. You must make sure that there are no obstructions in the way of the shutter curtain during operation. If things do go wrong do not try to effect serious repairs yourself. If your shutter is fitted with locks do not operate the motor with these in position or you could burn the motor out.

Q: Do I need to maintain or service the shutter once it is installed?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         A. Your shutter may require a little lubrication or grease from time to time but under normal operation it should run smoothly, keep the channels/tracks clear. Usually poor operation is due to some form of damage. We do offer an annual service agreement for our Shutters, where we attend site once a year and thoroughly check the shutter and advise you of any serious problems before a serious problem arises. We do not however place you under any pressure to enter into this contract.

Q: How much heat do they keep out?
A: Shutters will keep out approximately 90% of the heat gain through your windows. The trick is to have something on the outside preventing the heat permeating the glass and roller shutters are terrific in this regard.

Q: How secure are they?
A: The greatest asset of shutters is their deterrent value for break ins. As well they are a strong physical barrier. The time taken and noise created in attempting a break-in through a roller shutter is a very big deterrent.
